PhD students were robbed by some Post Dr. in Barcelona!!

It was 29th December, 2010; we were walking on the street after having our lunch. The time was almost 3.30 pm or near about this figure. Suddenly we saw that one guy forgot to take his notebook from the street. So, we wanted to help him and told him to take his notebook with him. Suddenly, he replied us to help him to find out the place in map. Then we moved to the sub-street and wanted to show the place in map. When we were talking, three men with perfect police dress and having gun came to us and asked why are you guys gathering in this place? Where are you gays from? “Are you from Pakistan, India? Do you guys have Koken, heroin (drugs) etc? Show your passport” –those police guys asked us. They were speaking English with some difficulties. We were surprised and little bit afraid. We told them, we didn’t have any drugs or anything else. We came to Barcelona on 28th of December to visit. Unexpectedly they forced us to give them our wallet to make sure either we had drugs or not. They also asked us when you guys would leave Barcelona and so on. As we didn’t have passport with us at that time, we showed our Danish CPR no card to them. They told us we couldn’t understand anything with this. And then they asked how much money did we have? They again took our wallet to check it out. As they didn’t see too much currency with us, they asked us how we can survive here. Then we told them we have VISA card to spend money. After this they wanted our VISA or MASTER card. They wanted to verify us as we had illegal transactions with our Bank in Barcelona. In their hand, they carried some electronic devices (looks like cell phone) and they asked the pin no to check in that device. At that time, I was puzzled and asked one of my friends....’ How can I give this pin no to them?’ Instantly one of the police guys threaded me like you should give. We had to check it out. Then I gave the wrong pin no and he typed in that device and again threaded me why you gave wrong one. And I continued it for the next time. Again he threaded me “You should give us the right PIN code”. At that time I was surprised how could he understand as I was giving wrong one. I supposed that they were real polices and for the next time I have given them right PIN code. My mind was not functioning well, I could not think anything accept this incident. I was too nervous and afraid of those things. After this, they took our wallet and put all the cards accept VISA and MASTER card. None of us had checked our wallet. When we were in the main street, one of them told me put my hands back and walks straight. I told to my friends how rude the Spanish polices were? We continued our walking until the next tourist bus stop. And then we got in the bus and didn’t talk each other much. After 15 min, Yash (one of my friends) was checked his wallet and didn’t find his VISA card and MASTER card. He told me this and same case happened to me. Oh my God!!!! How smart were those guys and how foolish were we? Immediately we got down from the bus and looked for nearby police station. During this time we had made a call to Danske bank to block our card. And we did it and went to the police. God gave a fever to us that at least Ram had roaming service over there. In the police station, they told us to call VISA and MASTER card office to block them. We did it and explained everything in details. With the help of one translator, the police was able to give me a police statement. It seemed to us this kind of case was so usual in Barcelona. I was a big fan of FC Barcelona, now thinking to shift another club… ha ha.
