লাওৎ-সে তাঁর "তাও তে চিং" বইয়ের ৮ নম্বর কবিতায় কী কারণে মহৎ গুণের সঙ্গে পানির তুলনা করে বলেছেন-মহৎ গুণ হচ্ছে জলের মতন। কেন? কেননা-Water serves all beings and does not require anything for itself. কাজেই তাঁর লেখা কবিতাও জটিল। তাও তে চিং গ্রন্থের আট সংখ্যক কবিতাটিতে অবশ্য চমৎকার সব উপদেশ রয়েছে। অনুবাদ করেছেন-Gia Fu Feng The highest good is like water. (শাইখ সিরাজের এই লাইনটি ভালো লাগবে মনে হয়। ) In meditation, go deep in the heart. (এই লাইনটি ব্লগার রাঙা মীয়া/কানা বাবা ও হুমায়ূন সাধুর ভালো লাগবে মনে হয়। ) In dealing with others, be gentle and kind. (মাঝে মাঝে এই কথাটি আমরা কেন যেন ভুলে যাই!) In speech, be true. (খালেদা জিয়া; শোনেন।

) In ruling, be just. (শেখ হাসিনা; শোনেন। ) In daily life, be competent. (সবাই শোনেন্) In action, be aware of the time and the season. ( বাংলাদেশী ক্রিকেটার ভাইরা শোনেন) No fight: No blame. তারপরও ইতিহাসে কত যুদ্ধ !!! কত দোষারোপ !!! ৮ নং কবিতাটির অন্য একটি অনুবাদ এরকম। The wise lives like water. Water serves all beings and does not require anything for itself. It exists below all things. In this respect, it is similar to Tao. Life has to follow the principle of naturalness. Follow the path of heart! Be friendly! Tell only truth! When guiding others, follow the principle of being calm! Every action has to be realizable and done in time.
