The Top 10 Searches for Online Dating Sites

Whether you're focused on your career, haven't found the right person or are simply exploring relationship options tailor-made for the digital age, online dating can be a great step toward improving your love life.
There's certainly no shortage of services for web-savvy daters. Between OkCupid, a site especially popular among Millennials, and newcomer Tinder, an app geared more toward flings, you're bound to find a match somewhere. But where are other eligible bachelors and bachelorettes looking for romance?

Below, we've listed the top dating sites U.S.-based Internet users searched for on Yahoo within the past 30 days. Though the numbers don't necessarily reflect actual users, they're good indications of each specific site's popularity.
In addition to these services, popular search terms for Yahooligans included "Christian dating," "cougar dating site" (yeah, we know) and "plenty of phish dating." That last one must be a common misspelling of website PlentyofFish ... unless we're unaware of a dating site specifically for fans of the rock band.

OkCupid tops the list, which is pretty unsurprising considering the site has become nearly synonymous with online dating. Searches this month for OkCupid skewed male — 68% came from men.
Top states included Vermont, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Looks like residents of small, northeastern states are looking for new dating avenues.
Match.com launched in 1995 and it's still going strong. Nearly 20 years later, the site is now available in 24 countries and 15 different languages. For the U.S., 73% of searches came from men, and the top states were North Dakota, Vermont and Minnesota.
Meetme's slogan is "Where new friends meet," but surely some of the site's 90 million users find significant others. Searches primarily came from Kentucky, West Virginia and Arkansas, with 67% coming from men.
With its behavioral matchmaking algorithms, Zoosk guarantees that you'll "date smarter." That promise has attracted the most searches from states Wyoming, Nebraska and Iowa — 71% of which are from men.

Based in Santa Monica, Calif., eHarmony is perhaps most recognizable from its TV spots featuring successful matches. It boasts a high success rate: An average of 438 members marry every day in the United States.
More than half of this month's searches for eHarmony came from men (54% to be exact), from top states Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
PlentyofFish users take a "chemistry test," and the site matches them to people with similar personalities, focusing on emotional needs. Yahoo searches came from 68% men, and the top states were Maine, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
JDate is the most popular online dating destination specifically for Jewish singles, tens of thousands of whom interact on the site every day. Search traffic mostly came from New York, New Jersey and Florida, and 56% of searches came from men.
Skout is a mobile app for iPhone and Android users that originally started as a way to extend business relationships. While still marketed as a "global network for meeting new people," the platform is conducive to forging friendships and romances. Sixty-eight percent of searches came from men, and the top states were Texas, California and Florida.
Christian Mingle is an online community created just for Christian singles looking to find friends, relationships or marriage. Searches for Christian Mingle are the only ones this month that skewed female — 56% of searches came from female users. The top states were Texas, California and Pennsylvania.

Tinder, a dating app especially popular among college students, helps you find fellow users nearby. You can either mark whom you're interested in or pass, and once you find a match you can chat with him or her within the app's interface.
Yahoo searches for Tinder this month comprised 78% men, and the top states were California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
