Netflix's 'House of Cards' Wins First Major Emmy Ever for a Web Series

Netflix's political thriller House of Cards just made history, becoming the first web-only series to win an award during a Primetime Emmys. The show's director, David Fincher, won Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, beating out showrunners for Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey and Homeland.
House of Cards was nominated for nine Emmys this season. The series last week won two Creative Arts Emmys for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series and Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series.

On the red carpet, celebrities and creators such as Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes praised House of Cards and the way Netflix is disrupting the TV industry with its web-only programs.
During the main broadcast three Netflix-related nominees lost in their respective categories: Kevin Spacey (lead actor in a drama), Robin Wright (lead actress in a drama) and Jason Bateman (lead actor in a comedy).
House of Cards has one category left — Outstanding Drama Series — where it is up against Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland and Mad Men.
Netflix had 14 nods for House of Cards, Arrested Development and Hemlock Grove.
