Netflix to Debut First Original Kids Series 'Turbo FAST'

Netflix will premiere Turbo FAST, a racing-themed animated comedy from DreamWorks, on Dec. 24. It is the streaming service's first original series for kids and comes just months after Netflix made history at the Emmy Awards for its political thriller, House of Cards.
Five episodes from the series, which continues the tale from the Turbo movie, will be available on Dec. 24 at 12:01 a.m. PT, with more episodes premiering in 2014. This release strategy differs from Netflix's previous shows; all episodes for those series came out at once to encourage viewers to binge-watch them.

The show will follow the Stunt Team of Turbo, Whiplash, Burn, Smoove Move, White Shadow, Skidmark and Chet as they race on "the coolest tracks and take on the craziest challengers," a Netflix representative said Tuesday. Reid Scott from HBO's Veep will voice Turbo.

“We’ve long said that Netflix is revolutionizing the television industry and now we are thrilled to officially be a part of it,” Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks, said in a statement. “They have been fantastic partners whose vision has given our characters an amazing platform to be enjoyed by families around the world.”
Turbo FAST is part of Netflix and DreamWorks' multi-year agreement, which also includes bringing more than 300 hours of new programming — inspired by DreamWorks characters as well as some of the DreamWorks-acquired Classic Media characters — to Netflix.
Previously, Netflix inked new licensing deals with Turner Broadcasting and Warner Bros. to stream previous seasons of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim shows. Netflix also struck a deal with Disney in 2012 to start offering new, first-run Disney films in 2016.
Most recently, Netflix and Disney-owned Marvel signed a deal to offer four original series in 2015 featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
Rival streaming service Hulu has also entered the market for original animated series, launching The Awesomes in August and Mother Up! in November.
In September, Netflix's original political thriller House of Cards became the first web-only show to win an award at any Primetime Emmys after winning Outstanding Directing for a Drama. Netflix was in the running in 14 Emmy categories for House of Cards, Arrested Development and supernatural thriller Hemlock Grove.
