Hershey's 3D Chocolate Printer Will Make Your Mouth Water

Willy Wonka's wildest dreams might be coming true. Hershey's and 3D Systems are teaming up to create a 3D printer that, yes, produces chocolate.
Both companies see the endeavor as an opportunity for advancement. Hersey's believes a 3D printer could act as a new delivery system for its products, and 3D Systems hopes that it will thrust 3D-printing technology into the mainstream, according to CNN.

"Whether it's creating a whole new form of candy or developing a new way to produce it, we embrace new technologies such as 3D printing as a way to keep moving our timeless confectionery treats into the future," William Papa, head of research and development at Hershey's, told CNN.
3D systems is no stranger to producing food. The company showcased its ChefJet 3D food printer, which prints objects using sugar, at the 2014 International CES earlier this month.
And it's not the only one hopping on the 3D-food-printing bandwagon. Foodini is a 3D printer that can create items such as small pizzas and ravioli. What's more, existing 3D printers can be modified to work with chocolate; all they need are some specialized parts.
Hershey's and 3D Systems' printer does not yet have a release date or cost. Hershey's has also yet to confirm whether or not it will print chocolate on an industrial scale, or make the device available as a consumer product.
