Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White brought a whole new meaning to dancing with the stars (and stripes) Monday night.
The American duo finished first in ice dancing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, giving Team U.S.A. its first gold medal ever in ice dancing after finishing silver at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

White and Davis beat Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada, a pair that the Americans train with in Canton, Mich., and the 2010 gold medalists. Russian duo Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov took bronze.
An American team has now medaled in ice dancing the past three Winter Olympic games. Prior to a 2006 silver medal from Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto, Team U.S.A. had not medaled in the event since a bronze in the 1976 games in Innsbruck, Austria.

Monday night's victory was particularly sweet for White and Davis. The duo has spent the last four years battling the Canadians at both the Winter Olympics and the world championships. The Americans took home gold at the world championships in 2011 and 2013, and the Canadians did so in both 2010 and 2012.
Heading into Monday night's free skate finale, the Americans had a 2.56 point lead over Canada, a significant total in ice dancing, but not insurmountable. By the time the podium was readied, the Americans had secured gold by more than 4.5 points.
"It felt light, it felt easy, it felt like we prepared," White said Sunday ahead of the final, according to the LA Times. "It felt like we were just enjoying skating with one another."
White and Davis, who are 26 and 27-years-old respectively, have been dancing partners for 17 years.
