The future of journalism is in Google Glass. At least, that's what a professor at the University of Southern California thinks.

Web journalism professor Robert Hernandez conceived the course "Glass Journalism," which aims to teach students how to use the Google gadget to tell and produce stories. It's now slated to be taught in the fall of 2014.

A college course titled "The Sociology of Miley: Race, Class, Gender and Media" raised quite a few eyebrows when it was announced this past March.

Professor Carolyn Chernoff will teach the course in the summer of 2014 at Skidmore College. Tongues and twerking aside, the class will focus on Cyrus' rise to fame, her "uses of culture across race, class and gender" and media focus on the singer. Remember when the Internet exploded with memes, tweets and think pieces after her 2013 VMA performance? Us too.)

In 2007, Pitzer College made headlines when it began offering a course called "Learning From YouTube." The course was all YouTube, all the time, with students watching, uploading and commenting on videos, and studying the site's structure.

Twitter addicts, here's your calling. As of fall 2013, students at Newberry College can major in social media.

The school's interdisciplinary program also places an emphasis on learning graphic design and communications. It boasts courses such as "Social Media and Mobile Marketing," taught by Tania Sosiak, associate professor of graphic design and social media, and founder of the program.

How can you make a viral video? That's the elusive concept behind "The Science of Viral Videos," an online course at Rutgers University.

The curriculum includes studying viral success stories, creating media and analyzing the data behind virility.

A sociology course at Bowdoin analyzes just how much social media has changed our lives. "In the Facebook Age" aims to discover how "new media forms through discourses of culture, race, space and power."

Students are asked to go on Facebook detoxes and analyze "computer-mediated communication."

Bowdoin's not the only school with a course on Facebook. At Towson University, there's an honors seminar called "Alone Together: Finding Intimacy in the Age of Facebook, Hook-Ups and Cool Culture."

Observing the rise of social media and online communication, the class examines how tech, pop culture and consumerism affect the human ability to find deeper intimacy.

Here's an Internet-inspired course at its finest. At the University of Buffalo, students can take a class called "Machines, Codes and Culture."

Students analyze the concepts behind topics such as social media, cloud computing, household smart appliances and the Internet of Things.
