'Man of Steel' Sequel Finally Finds Its Wonder Woman

The untitled Man of Steel sequel, which will star Ben Affleck as Batman and bring back Henry Cavill as Superman, will now also feature Wonder Woman.

Director Zack Snyder announced the female superhero's inclusion Wednesday on Variety, tapping Fast and Furious Israeli actress Gal Gadot to fill the role.

"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe," Snyder told Variety. "Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."

Gadot, who won Miss Israel and competed in Miss Universe in 2004, expressed her excitement on Twitter: "Wonder Women! So exciting!!! Can't express how happy I am :))))"

Whether Gadot can live up to previous Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter, who famously assumed the role in the 1970s TV series about the heroine, is yet to be seen.

The untitled sequel will pit Batman against Superman, so viewers can anticipate seeing "physical conflicts" between the two crime fighters, Snyder previously revealed. The sequel will be filmed in Detroit and other parts of Michigan before arriving in theaters in 2015.
