It might sound ambitious but it is achievable. We all are well aware of the inconveniences such as traffic jam, water, gas, electricity. security and the notorious mosquitoes we face in the city. But I have seen a place in Bangladesh where these problems are hardly faced. it might sound silly that it is a colony I am talking about. But it is not merely a colony. its a community, 'well planned place' many would like to call it. the "Polash Urea Sar Karkhana" colony at Ghorashal is the place I am naming here. That place has numerous buildings, very good number of parks and playground (which obviously a kid from Dhaka not even dream of these days), good maintenance, well secured, no load shedding, in a word a very nice place to live. It is nothing unlike abroad. Now, what has it got to do with Dhaka. Well, if we can plan the city as this then it can answer all our questions. I have written to Rajuk Chairman but got no reply and instead thought to post it here. The life people of Dhaka City living is not really what they deserve. Digital Bangladesh is still depending on an analogue city. I think its time we think about us. without wasting any more time of yours lets get down to the plan. these plan involves building apartments rather than 1 , 2 or sometimes 5 storied buildings owned by private landlords. by demolishing the existing and obviously compensating the owners like the developers do can help accomplishing this. these apartments will of course have solar panel to help with the electricity. a bio gas plant can solve the scarcity of gas, water recycling facilities and biggest fear of all earthquake resistant and we have only these apartments in the community then it will be cleaner and mosquitoes can be exterminated. the main importances I would like to proritize here would be that those apartments would be planned so that it can let out wider roads in between them. in cases of emergencies such as fire, police or medical an ambulance, police van and fire vans can easily make their way on that road. Also many roads (if well planned) can be made out so that we have alternative routes to many destinations resulting in less traffic jam. Also the smart planning can bring out space for parks, library, local medical facility, post office and supermarkets as well. A perfect community we can hope for. I would live it here today and would really appreciate your ideas, comments and suggestions.
