‘Ek sagor rokter binimoye, Banglar shadhwinota anle zara, amra tomader bhulbo na……’ By singing this song, Students of Jagannath University on 16 December commemorated the country’s heroes who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War ’71. They along with their teachers and employees paid tribute to the martyrs by placing wreath of flowers on the foot of University Shaheed Minar.
On the occasion, the whole campus turned into a festive look as it is not only an occasion of paying tributes but also a great occasion of celebrating country’s victory. Students and teachers of all departments came to the campus wearing colourful dresses that added special beauty with the as usual look of the campus. Boys and male teachers wore short panjabis in combination of red and green with jeans while female students and teachers wore colourful sharees and kamizes with a flower attached with their hair.
The students also decorated their respective departments with hoisting flags in different corners, fastening colourful papers, baloons on wall and drawing alpona on the floor. It seemed that they were celebrating someone’s Birthday. Obviously it was the birthday of their beloved motherland in a sense.

Some students also took part in the discussions and they express their feelings, mission and vision marking the significance of the day. In the mean time he also thanked the Chairman, teachers and the students for arranging such a cultural programme despite of the limited space.”

Food, clothing, shelter, education and treatment have to be ensured for everybody. Poverty and corruption must be eradicated from the root.”
