TECHNIQUE: Threading an Eyelet
This tutorial will explain how to thread an eyelet using Photoshop 7.0.
Step 1: Using Photoshop, open the eyelet and ribbon you wish to thread. Drag both of those elements into your layout. I have three separate layers, with the ribbon on top.
Step 2: With the ribbon layer highlighted (or active), Choose Layer > Add Layer Mask > Reveal All
This is what the Layers area should resemble now:
Step 3: Select the Buckle layer to be your active layer. Now, click on the CTRL button and the Buckle layer together. This will select the entire buckle.
Note: You may want to enlarge the image to see the details better, while pressing the CTRL key, also press the + key (to minimize, press CRTL - ).
Step 4: Select the layer mask thumbnail, see below:
Step 5: Select the brush tool and choose a round or square brush at a size you can easily work with. Set opacity to 100%. Change the foreground and background colors as black and white. See below for reference:
Step 6: Erase the part of the ribbon where you want the buckle to show through.
Step 7: When finished erasing, select CTRL D to deselect the selected area (marching ants).
Step 8: To add shadows, double-click the Layer thumbnail of the ribbon. Select the shadow styles you want to add in the Layer Style box and change the settings as desired.
