During the Eid, as the embankment collapsed by intense downstream, nine villages under Daulat-khan Upazila of Bhola, Bangladesh have been flooded. Approximately 20,000 people were affected by the flood on Sunday while they were celebrating ‘Eid’ festival despite the fear of washing away.
At least the sudden fast-breaking water took 100 hectares of cropland, 20 fish processing center and five betel-leaf gardens away from the monster river Meghna. Majhirhaat villagers told that a fraction of the embankment collapsed on Friday (the day before Eid) and it entirely broke down on Sunday. They also noticed the Government was not doing anything for them. The substitute “Ring Dam” also collapsed and it would take some time since the current of downstream. People here don’t know what “Global Warming is” they only know they have fallen in to a ‘cycle of disaster’.
