We all know that IE9 is going to be released only a day later. So I thought I could share my views after using its technical preview versions for a while & being in discussion with insiders as a Microsoft Connect member.
After releasing Windows 7 & Windows Live Wave 4, Microsoft convinced their customers that they are not yet ‘Out of the game’ & Grandpa can still amuse their children with new tales. But will it be so in case of IE9?
Well, IE8 was a smash hit as it made Firefox drop share and Microsoft gain it. But that’s not the big deal as IE used to enjoy above 90% market share l-o-n-g ago!
Point to be noted that, things have changed. Google is rushing into the browsing world aggressively with Chrome and Mozilla is like a mad wolf trying heart and soul to regain its heritage with Firefox 4.
People loves to say that IE has too many security flaws; but its quite a big lie in case of IE8. With the SmartScreen filter, Internet Explorer 8 is the # 1 browser in malware and phishing protection. Internet Explorer 8 is:
2.9 times better than Firefox in protecting against malicious malware
5 times better than Chrome in protecting against malicious malware
3 times better than Chrome in protecting users against phishing attacks
By default, Internet Explorer 8 separates the address bar and search bar functions to help ensure that what you type in your address bar stays private and isn’t shared with anyone.
The issue because IE8 can no more fight the battle is that it does not support latest web standards (e.g. HTML5, WebM etc..)
So its high time Microsoft released a new browser, IE9.
Microsoft gave web developers around the world an early look at what was coming in the next version of Internet Explorer & they are amused. Feedback from the developer community on IE9 has been overwhelmingly positive.
Most important of all is the innovation around using the graphics hardware (GPU) in your PC. The browser you’re using today only uses about 10% of the total computing power of your PC. With Internet Explorer 9, you will be unlocking the other 90% by using your GPU to hardware accelerate graphics, text and video.
Not yet convinced, have a closer look:
IE9 passed 578 out of 578 tests in CSS3 .info Selectors Test. The CSS3 .info Selectors Test measures a browser's support for CSS3 Selectors.
Acid3 is one test some people use to measure a Web browser platform's compliance with some Web standards. Here’s how the fourth release of Internet Explorer Platform Preview scores:
“Failed 5 of 100 tests. Test 26 passed, but took 698ms (less than 30fps) Test 75 failed: Object doesn't support this property or method Test 76 failed: expected '0' but got '100' - Incorrect animVal value after svg animation. Test 77 failed: Not implemented Test 78 failed: expected '90' but got '1.9237771034240722' - getRotationOfChar(0) failed. Test 79 failed: Not implemented Total elapsed time: 1.49s.”
So, can’t wait for IE9? You need to wait only a single day! Microsoft is going to release its 1st beta on September 15th 2010.
