I am not a fan of the movies made out of famous best-sellers. I hated all the movies based on Dan Brown best-sellers, the film 'The Golden Compass' completely ruined the book, same goes for 'To Kill a Mockingbird', 'The Bone Collector' etc...However, I refused to make any comments on the Twilight saga or whatever....it is simply not worth it. The film 'The General's Daughter',however, hasn't disappointed me. Yes I agree the book was better but at least compared to the films made out of books I have mentioned before, this film was tolerable. The theme of this movie is very touchy and what I liked the most about it is it blended so many things into each other. The basic theme and most highlighted one surely is the discrimination made to the women working in the US army and which was expressed by the male troops by gang-raping and brutally torturing the smarter female colleague who also happened to be the general's daughter almost to death. However, the touchier and more sensitive part is how the father trades between the justice for his daughter's rape and his career. There are so many sequences where my heart clenched by just imagining how it might feel if put into her shoes, how it might feel to be betrayed by the person you trust the most e.g., your father. The weight of the sequences like where Brenner tells the general that he killed his daughter seven years ago when he asked her to forget all about it and Kent just put her out of her misery and also when he says that he finally realised what was worse than rape, it was betrayal, were to heavy to bear. An amazing theme altogether. Makes you think, leaves you wondering after you are done reading the book or watching the movie. I guess that is what makes reading a book or watching a movie worth the time.
