The Dallas Mavericks will sport a bold new look during the 2015-2016 NBA season, thanks to a contest crowdsourcing the design for a team uniform. Barring an unforeseen changes, it's believed to be the first time an NBA team will wear a jersey designed by a fan.
Mavs owner Mark Cuban announced the contest in May. On Wednesday, the team unveiled the finalist designs.

Cuban told Mashable in an email that the team received "over a thousand entries" via his blog and the website Crowdspring. He narrowed that field down to 10 finalists, which fans can vote for on the Mavs.com. You can check out five of the contestants right here:
Whichever uniform is ultimately selected, however, won't be the team's home or away uniform. Instead, it will be what's known as an "alternate," which teams typically don a few times per year. Even so, fan-designed jerseys are a cool conceit and one we wouldn't mind seeing catch on elsewhere.
Should more sports teams incorporate fans' ideas in their uniform designs, or is that best left to the pros? Give us your take in the comments.
