Apple has hired a longtime cable exec who revealed on his LinkedIn profile that he is working on "something big" at the company.
Jean-François Mulé, a former SVP of technology development at CableLabs, joined Apple in September as engineering director. Mulé wrote on his LinkedIn profile that he is "challenged, inspired and part of something big," in his new role at Apple.

However, the "something big" could mean just working at Apple.
Mulé's stint at CableLabs lasted for a year, from August 2011 through August 2012. There, he "founded CableLabs’ Bay Area office and staffed team to develop apps and startup engagement," according to his LinkedIn profile.
CableLabs, founded in 1988, describes itself as a "non-profit research and development consortium that is dedicated to pursuing new cable telecommunications technologies and to helping its cable operator members integrate those technical advancements into their business objectives."
Given Mulé's background, the hire fueled speculation that the notoriously secretive Apple was working on some kind of TV set-top box that would upgrade its Apple TV experience. As Mulitichannel News notes, Mulé worked on second-screen TV apps at CableLabs.
