Everyone loves a cute selfie now and then, and most Instagram users are more forgiving about these low-res self portraits when it comes to their favorite celebrities. Still, when the majority on pictures on your profile are selfies, fame or not, it gets annoying really quickly.
On the other hand, celebrities who post only the most polished pictures of themselves are just trying too hard. If someone could find it in a Google Image search, it probably doesn't need to be on Instagram. Throwing in a candid selfie or maybe some pictures of favorite pets or local hangouts really does a lot to balance an Instagram feed.
Self-promotion is normal. For celebrities, social media is a way to make money. But when a celebrity decides to use her Instagrams as advertisements for other companies, it comes off as tasteless.
Artsy photos have their place on Instagram -- plenty of celebrities take them. When it become clear that your Instagram is becoming a dumping ground for your Pinterest pictures, all those cute craft photos and pretty food snapshots are just irritating. There's nothing wrong with posting the same photos across multiple social media platforms, but not when all the accounts are exactly the same.
Yes, most people want a peek inside the glamorous life of a celebrity -- otherwise they wouldn't be following him on Instagram. However, there is such a thing as celebrity overshare. Very few people would want to know about a celeb's foot fungus, bowel movements or the rather disturbing facial Kim Kardashian got.
In this day and age, shocking, risque photos of celebs in trouble sell. Now with Instagram, celebrities don't have to wait to be caught in compromising positions by the paparazzi; they can upload those pics themselves from their smartphones. Whether it's revealing outfits, drug use or other scandalous attempts, these types of posts get old pretty quickly.
We all know celebrities have the craziest, most amazing stuff money can buy, and sometimes it's fun seeing pictures of them cruising around on yachts and taking luxurious vacations. When it's all they post on Instagram, however, it suddenly become less glamorous and comes off more like bragging. Excessively showing off your vast wealth won't endear you to others, even if they are already your fans.
Just like showing off, in small doses name-dropping is fine. It's cool to see celebrities hanging out together in their downtime, being friends and having lunch dates. But having a fellow celebrity in every picture makes it look like someone's Facebook celebrity sighting album. If you're famous enough to have followers on Instagram, you don't need to constantly assure them of your celeb status. They're following you for your pictures, not for Ryan Seacrest.
With the advent of Instagram, celebrities can post pictures from photo shoots, updates from awards shows or just log their daily lives. Still, just because celebrities can upload such personal details to this photo-sharing platform doesn't necessarily mean they should.
