AT&T to Bundle Lookout Security App on All Android Devices

Aiming to boost the security of its Android line of mobile products, AT&T has announced a new deal with software security firm Lookout. The arrangement will allow AT&T to bundle Lookout’s software with all Android smartphones and tablets offered by the wireless carrier.

“Our goal is to ensure that we provide our customers with the most comprehensive security, and we are excited to team up with Lookout to help protect our customers,” Judy Cavalieri, AT&T Mobility's vice-president of voice and prepaid products, said in a statement released Wednesday.
Currently available as a free download, Lookout’s software is already a popular choice among Android users, boasting a 4.5 rating in the Google Play store. The free version of the software has the ability to automatically snap photos of anyone attempting to unlock your smartphone , and helps the user locate a lost device via GPS.
The premium version, which costs $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, comes with 2GB of cloud storage, allows the user to remotely lock and wipe the device, and offers the ability to see which apps have access to your private information.
These are great extras for the price; however, part of the reason why Lookout has become so popular — particularly with Android users — is because its free version is so effective.

As the standard of mainstream computing shifts from desktop computers toward a mobile-first world, app-based solutions such as Lookout, which is also available for iOS and Kindle devices, will become increasingly important.
AT&T’s vice-president of global business development, Tim Roper, focused on this idea in a message posted to the company’s website Thursday. He wrote, “[Lookout understands] that the next wave of mobile goes beyond connectivity and communications to services and apps ... We’re happy to be protecting AT&T customers and safeguarding their most personal computers.”
