Many forecasters called the 1991 "Perform Storm" in Hollywood the nation's worst because its cold winds were strengthened by a looming hurricane.
The following year, a Nor'easter resulted in four deaths, per the CDC.
Then, in 2007, a spree of wintery storms pummeled the East coast, prompting comparisons to Perfect Storm. But not all were convinced of its impact; a meteorologist for The Weather Channel critiqued the media coverage, saying reporters were overhyping the storm.
Winter storms in 2012 spurred a different kind of reaction. Snow, sleet and rains made rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy an even greater challenge.
