Beyonce sent Instagram into a panic when she sheared off her famous locks in August. But with the power of hair extensions, fans got all the royal hair flipping they needed from their Queen until the cut grew out later in the year.
Shifting our attention to a completely different blond pixie cut, the Year of Miley has been full of shocking exploits. Her biggest Instagram moment, however, was the unveiling of this tattoo commemorating her Rolling Stone cover story. The picture was posted in the heyday following her VMA's performance.
Like a modern-day Scarlett O'Hara, Ke$ha knows how to work a curtain. This seductive shot stands out from the pop star's otherwise (surprisingly) PG Instagram feed.
Although most of her breakdown occurred on Twitter, Instagram users could still follow some of the Amanda Bynes drama of 2013 (without having to keep track of the Bynes/Drake relationship ups and downs). Most of the pictures on her account are inspirational quotes, but there is the occasional selfie, as well as several totally random shot, including a shoe or red-filtered cleavage.
Everyone's favorite good girl-gone-bad has plenty of scantily clad selfies to shock more conservative Instagram users, but her strip club party pics certainly took the cake this year.

The baby Jonas Brother shared this pic in July, revealing an unexpectedly buff bod and causing many tweens to reconsider which JoBro was their favorite. He captioned the photo: "I never do this but... Healthy living and fitness update. Post workout picture. #diabeticinshape #2.0"
The best part of this racy, #NoFilter selfie from a post-baby Kim K? Kanye's response.
He immediately reposted the pic via Twitter and added "HEADING HOME NOW."
In October, Community star Donald Glover (also known as Childish Gambino) posted a series of messages detailing his own fears and battles with depression and loneliness. The messages left fans with a deeper look into the troubled life of the comedian-turned-recording artist.
In the countdown for her ARTPOP album release earlier this year, Lady Gaga posted a picture of lyrics from her song "Dope." The lyrics were supposed to raise excitement about the album, but instead led to Instagram sending Gaga a message of concern, offering safety information to the pop star.
The message read: "Hi, Members of the Instagram community have raised concern for your well-being after seeing posts you’ve shared. We’re reaching out to provide you with some important safety information."
Gaga mocked the message on her Twitter, saying: "what the actual hell. hahahaha."
