Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: 5 Things to Watch For at Showtime

The Victoria's Secret angels won't be the only people spreading their wings during the lingerie brand's annual televised fashion show Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
The event's director, producers and digital teams are also showcasing their skills to give the pre-taped Victoria's Secret Fashion Show a few firsts, evolving the spectacle as technology continues to improve and social media continues to ignite online buzz.

"On one level, the appeal of the show is quite obvious, but if you delved below the surface, all of these levels open up — you'd be surprised." director Hamish Hamilton, who has helmed the show 10 times, told Mashable. "We constantly seek to outdo ourselves. When we started the journey 11 years ago, we really wanted to change the aesthetic and narrative of the show, and give the viewers a 360-degree experience onstage and backstage."

Jewelry brand Swarovski and 3D-printing company Shapeways teamed up with Victoria's Secret to create the fashion show's first 3D-printed look. Model Lindsay Ellingson will wear the outfit, which was printed in lightweight nylon and encrusted with millions of Swarovski crystals, down the runway during the Snow Angel segment of Monday night's broadcast.
"Shapeways’ 3D-printing technology brings an unprecedented design element to the famed Victoria’s Secret wings, showing the immense opportunity 3D printing brings to creating beautiful, customizable items," said Shapeways CEO Peter Weijmarshausen.

Hamilton used 4K cameras for this year's taping (the cameras shoot in a resolution of 4,000 pixels), meaning the end-of-runway shots will have a different look for TV viewers.
"This allowed us to manipulate color, and give you a wonderful depth of field," Hamilton said. "We replaced two large-format cameras with these."

The fashion show ropes in huge musical stars each year. Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars performed in 2012. This year, Taylor Swift and Fall Out Boy will take the stage. Together, they'll perform FOB's "My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark," and Swift will tackle her hit "I Knew You Were Trouble" alone, which Victoria's Secret angels lip-sync to in the following video:
"I thought that Taylor was great," Hamilton said. "She really embraced the entire show. It must be quite daunting for anybody, especially a young woman, to step on a runway with women who are considered the most beautiful women in the world. She looked great, sounded great and radiated."

The televised broadcast's online pre-show, which you can watch, below, starts at 9 p.m. ET; it promises extra access to the models and appearances from special guests.

The CBS app offers viewers an interactive second-screen experience, where users can find details about the models, outfits and performers. The experience will sync to where you are in the show, whether you're watching it when it initially airs, or after the fact on DVR.
Victoria's Secret's online hub for all things fashion show provides behind-the-scenes access, as well as ways for viewers to connect with the show and angels via social media and apps:

"It's almost impossible to articulate how intense in each show is," Hamilton said. "Literally, your life is consumed for a number of weeks. You live, breathe, eat the show, and nothing else in the world exists. For that reason, I always have a real commitment to these shows. Each show that you do is the best show you do."
