Top 10 Google Search Trends in 2013, According to Google

Google released its annual year-end Zeitgeist report, a list of top global search trends for the year that includes a video overview of the search trends in 2013 and the year's top 100 searches.
Notable deaths highlighted the top trending searches this year around the world. The No. 1 spot went to Nelson Mandela, the South African anti-apartheid hero who died in December. He is followed by actor Paul Walker, who died in a tragic car accident, also in early December. No. 4 on the list was Cory Monteith, the Glee actor who passed away from an overdose in July.

But Google's list isn't all tragedies. The iPhone 5S nabbed the No. 3 trending search of the year, and the Harlem Shake followed close behind at No. 5.
See the full top 10 list, below:
Nelson Mandela
Paul Walker
iPhone 5s
Cory Monteith
Harlem Shake
Boston Marathon
Royal Baby
Samsung Galaxy s4

The list resembles Google's top searches from 2012, which was also largely comprised of celebrity deaths, tragedies, royal figures and consumer electronics. This year is another good one for Apple, too.
The list of top search trends in the United States differed slightly from the global trends:

Zimmerman Trial
Typhoon Haiyan
New Pope
Syria Conflict
Mayweather versus Canelo
Google also released an interactive 3D map that displays the top search trends of the year by day in cities around the world.
