Schumacher's Condition Improves Slightly After Second Operation

Former Formula One driver Michael Schumacher's condition has improved slightly after doctors carried out a second operation to reduce swelling on his brain Tuesday. His prognosis is still unclear, doctors say.
Schumacher fell and injured his head in a skiing accident Sunday in Meribel, France. He suffered severe brain trauma, and he was transported to Grenoble where he's receiving treatment.

The doctors operated on Schumacher Sunday, in an effort to reduce the haematoma on his brain, the BBC reports.
“We cannot predict the future for Michael Schumacher. We are working hour by hour,” chief anesthesiologist Jean-Francois Payen told reporters at a news conference on Monday.
After his condition improved slightly Monday night, the Formula One champion has undergone a second operation to reduce the swelling on his brain. A new scan after the two-hour operation showed signs of improvement.
"We can't say he is out of danger but... we have gained a bit of time. The coming hours are crucial," said chief anesthesiologist Jean-Francois Payen.
Having won a record seven Formula One championship and 91 races, Michael Schumacher is a legend of the sport. He was previously injured at the Silverstone race course in 1999, breaking his leg. He also suffered neck and spine injuries after a motorcycling accident in February 2009 in Spain. He retired from racing in 2012.
