CBS to Stream 4 NFL Playoff Games Online for Free

Dust off your best touchdown dances, football fans — an Internet connection is all you'll need to watch at least four games of this season's NFL playoffs.
CBS announced on Thursday that it will live-stream its share of post-season NFL coverage at CBSSports.com. That covers four of the five AFC playoff games. You can watch via computer or mobile device without needing to provide any pesky authentication credentials.

Beginning Sunday, here are the games you can catch at CBSSports.com (or on regular ol' CBS if you're old school like that):
AFC Wild Card Round: San Diego vs. Cincinnati; Jan. 5; 1 p.m. ET
AFC Divisional Round: TBD vs. New England; Jan. 11; 8 p.m. ET
AFC Divisional Round: TBD vs. Denver; Jan. 12; 4:30 p.m. ET
AFC Championship: Teams TBD; Jan. 19; 3 p.m. ET
"We saw tremendous engagement with our record-breaking Super Bowl live stream last year on CBSSports.com, and we're excited to now offer fans a second-screen experience for all of the AFC Playoff games this year in complement to the NFL on CBS broadcast coverage," CBSSports.com general manager Jeffrey Gerttula told Mashable via email.
One caveat could trip up some fans, however, if Saturday's game in Cincinnati does not sell out, thereby causing local blackout rules to take effect. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy Cincinnati.com: "The blackout policy applies to online streaming as well. If the game is blacked out on TV it would also be blacked out online … in the local market only.”
CBSSports.com's live stream of last year's Super Bowl drew a record 3 million unique viewers who collectively watched more than 114 million digitally broadcasted minutes via nearly 10 million live feeds. That represented a 43% increase in unique viewers over the previous year's Super Bowl, as well as 100% and 46% jumps in total live streams and total minutes streamed, respectively.
Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off Feb. 2 and will be broadcast by Fox Sports. Fox will stream this year's Super Bowl for free, but the preceding NFL playoff games it carries will be restricted by cable-TV authentication credentials, according to Variety.
