On-demand beauty service Vensette expanded its service this week by rolling out an iOS app.
The concept is similar to Uber, but rather than a fleet of drivers, Vensette employs an army of specially trained hair stylists and makeup artists who are ready to meet clients around New York City. The company previously only offered its services via a web-based app.

To use Vensette, users choose a look from a curated menu of hair and makeup styles; the company then sends a uniformed hair stylist or makeup artist to their door. While users are encouraged to make appointments in advance, last-minute bookings are also possible, depending on current demand and stylist availability.
Appointments, which start at $150, are guaranteed to be completed in 45 minutes or less by one of Vensette's more than 100 trained and vetted freelance stylists.
The vetting process includes multiple interviews, background checks, and in-house hair and makeup tests. Stylists must then complete two days of training to learn the specifics of the styles offered on Vensette's menu.

"We’re not simply putting you in touch with a freelancer," Vensette founder and CEO Lauren Remington Platt told Mashable. "We’re really controlling the whole process A to Z."
Vensette has been offering on-demand beauty services since 2011 when Platt founded the company. Platt was working in the finance industry when she first got the idea for Vensette.
"It came from a personal need," she said. "It was about running from the office to get my hair done or my makeup done if I had something after work. I selfishly created the company I wanted that I would use and my friends would use."
Vensette's mobile debut is currently limited to New York City, but the app is in beta in Los Angeles, with a formal launch planned for February. Users can get the app for free in Apple's App Store.
