After attracting 18.5 million viewers in early December for its three-hour televised spectacle The Sound of Music Live!, NBC has picked Peter Pan as its second live musical.
An NBC spokesperson confirmed the news to Mashable, saying that "There have been no casting announcements yet." NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt revealed the selection at a Television Critics Association event Sunday morning.

NBC's Peter Pan project will air on Dec. 4. Greenblatt had previously revealed the network was planning to produce more live-TV versions of Broadway musicals in 2014 and beyond.
"In the hopes that lightning strikes twice, we think we’ve landed on another great Broadway musical — which ironically also starred Mary Martin — that is a timeless classic for all audiences, young and old, who just never want to grow up,” Greenblatt said in a statement.
This won't be the first time NBC is airing a Peter Pan musical live on TV. In 1955, the network aired the Broadway production featuring Mary Martin as Peter (pictured, above). The broadcast attracted a massive 65 million viewers.
For the uninitiated, Peter Pan is a boy who can fly, doesn't age and lives in Neverland, an island on which he leads a group of fellow children known as the Lost Boys.
The production team behind The Sound of Music Live!, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, will helm the new Peter Pan project. The Sound of Music Live! reportedly cost as much as $9 million, but there's no word on how much NBC is willing to spend on its second effort.
Despite much criticism and snark on social media, The Sound of Music Live! was quickly touted as a ratings win, as it pulled a bigger audience than other live events in 2013, including ABC's Billboard Music Awards (9.4 million), American Music Awards (12.9 million) and CMA Awards (16.6 million), a country music fest co-hosted by Sound of Music's leading lady Carrie Underwood. The show also fared better than the Academy of Country Music Awards (15.4 million). The Sound of Music Live!, however, roped in far fewer sets of eyeballs than CBS's Grammy Awards (28.4 million) and the Super Bowl halftime show (104 million).
