Lieutenant's Surprise Homecoming Renders Son Speechless

It's a story you've heard before, but one you'll never tire of.
Lt. Col. Cotina Jenkins-Sellers returned home to San Antonio, Texas on Jan. 16 after an eight month deployment in Kuwait. But instead of telling her 13-year-old son Derrick ahead of time, she and her husband chose to surprise him at his middle school basketball game.

San Antonio's local ABC affiliate KSAT was on the scene to capture the tear-inducing footage.

The uplifting clip shows Jenkins-Sellers sneaking into the school during Derrick's game and nervously preparing to see her son. The team's coaches were in on the surprise, and arranged for Derrick to shoot a free-throw, unaware that his mother was sneaking up on him from behind.

The moment Jenkins-Sellers finally reveals herself, Derrick falls to the floor in surprise before the two share a tearful embrace.

Don't feel the need to hold back tears — we certainly didn't.

"My husband, Sgt Richard Ussery has been in Iraq for the past year. His unit came home at Thanksgiving, but he was stuck at Ft. Hood, TX for medical reasons. He received a 3-day pass and came home to see the last soccer tournament of this year. He has missed every game, and our 11-year-old had NO idea! Her reaction is priceless."

A spelling bee at a Boca Raton elementary school was actually a ruse for 9-year-old Skylar Johnson. Skylar's father, Staff Sgt. Therron Johnson, had been on tour in Iraq since last Christmas. But Friday, he was waiting to surprise her during the spelling bee.
While Skylar was on stage spelling the word "Sergeant," the principal asked if she knows any sergeants. As soon as Skyler answered, "my dad," Staff Sgt. Johnson made his entrance.
Skylar is completely stunned and in tears at the sight of her father, a man she hasn't seen in eight months. Unfortunately, Johnson is only home for nine days. But all that matters to Skylar is right now.

Lieutenant Dan has been deployed in Afghanistan since last October and is on his way home. But what makes it special is that he has a new baby daughter waiting to meet him for the first time. Watch as this journey unfolds throughout the day as the tension builds and the family reunites for the first time as three. It's a crusher. You can't help but feel some of the patriotism when he arrives home.

"We are so proud of our kids. The times that my husband is gone, our kids are so strong and don't complain about anything. This deployment has been a bit harder on them due to us moving to a different town and new house without their dad, John, being around. While he was gone, we worked on our new house, trying to make it perfect for the first time that "daddy" would see it. They made posters and cards. We even have a "flat daddy" that goes to all the important events with us, like the first day of school, the first soccer game and so on. My kids are so strong, and this video really shows how they build up their emotions until that second when they finally let it all out. They just went limp and gave into the crying and daddy's arms. It was so special to watch, as a mother and an army wife.
My husband has been in the Army for 16 years. He is currently working as an Embedded International Trainer and is attached to Delta CO 2-35 Infantry in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan. Although he is not currently deployed as a soldier, he works with them every day and is part of their team. John loves his country and is extremely dedicated to the men and women of our armed forces. We really appreciate that you post these videos, as they show the sacrifices that we Americans make every day."

"Here is a video of me surprising our kids after my husband came back from his deployment. Things seemed to keep going wrong... It was supposed to be at a restaurant, but he came back a day later then planned. Then, he was supposed to be closed in the box, but he was too big! Then, not enough wrapping paper, even though there was 3 rolls... But it all worked out in the end thanks to some awesome friends!!! Enjoy... (They sure did!)"

"When my husband left on his deployment, our 6-year-old son could not walk on his own. He has cerebral palsy. Doctors originally said that he would never walk or do much of anything. While daddy was away, he learned to walk. For his homecoming, we set it up for Michael to walk to his daddy for the first time ever! We kept the fact that he could walk a secret the whole time his dad was gone!"
