New Yorkers, Beware: Zombies Are Lurking Beneath the Streets

Will the citizens of New York ever be safe? Between the devil baby haunting our dreams and comedians posing as fake employees at the Apple Store, New Yorkers can't seem to escape pranksters.
AMC, not to be outdone, got in on the pranking action to promote the return of The Walking Dead on Sunday. The cable channel terrorized unsuspecting pedestrians with zombies hidden under the city sidewalks.

To pull off the stunt, they placed actors in full zombie attire beneath a modified subway grate in Manhattan's Union Square. As people stepped over the grates, the bloodied undead lunged at their feet while grunting and groaning.
Watch out, New Yorkers — zombies will eat you from the toes up to your brain. Think about that the next time you're casually strolling to Starbucks.

BONUS: 12 Apocalyptically Annoying Zombies From 'The Walking Dead'

Remember this girl? She tried to claw her way through Rick in the pilot episode. #rude
Her scheme to kill off the main character before the series even began might not have worked as she hoped, but you can't say she didn't get your heart racing a little.
This zombie contributed to one of the most suspenseful scenes of season three. He also almost really screwed things up psychologically for fans watching.
Glenn went through enough torture to keep the rest of the group's location a secret from Merle. This walker was like a boss level, except your hands are bound to a chair, which also happens to be your only weapon.
All kids fight with their parents -- but Penny played too many mind games with her father. The Governor is annoying and he's not even dead, so when we're defending him, you know it's bad.
Sure, Phillip was simply not ready to let his daughter go, but she wasn't helping either. Instead, she got all agro when he tried to brush her hair. Then she tried to rip his throat in the literal zombie way, not the choking-dad-with-teen-angst way.
Mothers give their children tough love. Zombie mothers forget about the love part.
After falling to the walkers, Jenny Jones in zombie form attacked her son, Duane. Unable to bring himself to kill his own mother, Duane succumbs to the bite. If that wasn't gut-wrenching enough, Jenny left her husband Morgan mentally unstable after witnessing the entire thing and leaving him no choice but to kill her.
This is actually a deleted scene, in case you are wondering how Milton actually takes a bite into one of the last Atlanta survivors. (You know, in case the flesh wounds of season three's finale haven't healed yet.)
Milton spent the entire episode preventing the inevitable for Andrea, and still managed to blow it. All in the name of Milton's selfish love for zombie science.
There is nothing -- I repeat, nothing -- more annoying than an antagonist who simply will not die. The SWAT walkers had uniforms most suitable for the living, making them near impossible to kill.
Let's not forget these robo-zombies were particularly irritating because Lori had a baby on the way, and needed a cell block for safety.
This troll of a zombie proved that walkers can be predatory, taking a bite of Hershel's calf when he was SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD ALREADY.
You do not rip apart one of the only survivors with common sense without getting some hate from fans. This zombie was the absolute worst.
Farm water with a splash of walker juice. No, that's not a new cocktail, it's just zombies being wasteful and inconsiderate to those thirsty from running away from zombies all day. Scumbags.
This is as incriminating as when someone sneezes or coughs with their mouth open -- except, imagine catching the Bubonic Plague or something fatal.
Lori knew a caesarean left her choosing either her life or the baby's. Regardless, this gluttonous zombie was totally "that guy."
You know, that guy that you didn't invite to the party, but he'll show up anyway, and eat all of the snacks and annoy all the attendees to the point of fleeing the host. In this case, Lori was kind of the party snack.
No one likes being interrupted in the bathroom, and no one likes when a character who breaks the tension and happens to have a really great relationship with her sister dies.
This zombie managed to strike out on all accounts, coming out of left field and taking a chunk of Amy's shoulder. Not to mention leaving her sister an emotional wreck for years and/or seasons to follow.
This little girl had the survivors searching on a farm for almost all of season two, attempting to find her.
Lo and behold, she was yards away in the barn, and not even really Sophia anymore. She's just a zombie, breaking everyone's heart and spirit.
