Hockey isn't a sport for the fainthearted, especially at the Olympics. Friday's Photo of the Day, which features Swedish goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist saving a shot from Nino Niederreiter of Switzerland, captures that intensity at the men's ice hockey preliminary round group C game in Sochi.
This photograph was taken by Bruce Bennett, Getty Images' director of photography for hockey imagery. The Brooklyn-born hockey photography legend captured the shot at the Bolshoy Ice Dome while covering his fourth Olympics. Taken from above, the image shows the game from a hard-to-get angle.

"What strikes me about this photo is what we all love about hockey," he said. "The hard hits, sliding across the ice, everyone battling to get control of the puck and goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist with his arms and legs spread out to continue to protect the goal. In this game he shut out the Swiss and it's a hard-changing play like this that made it possible. The overhead angle is very unique and gives an interesting perspective on how close all the players are to each other and how big the goal Lundqvist has to defend really is."
Sweden narrowly defeated Switzerland in a 1-0 shutout on Friday. The Swedes will face Latvia on Saturday for a chance to make it to the quarterfinals.
