It looks like Microsoft could fulfill Panos Panay's promise to add an LTE option to its Surface 2 Tablets, a little detail that the vice president of Surface revealed last year during a wide-ranging Reddit AMA.
Why was LTE not included on neither Surface nor Surface Pro?

Great question. We didn't talk about it today, but Surface 2 will be launching an awesome LTE SKU early next year! Nice catch on your part, no one else has asked this question...... what better way to tell people than through Reddit!! Panos
Now an eagle-eyed team at MYCE has spotted a recent FCC filing that appears to indicate the existence of a LTE-ready Surface 2. The report also notes support for GSM and CDMA.

Microsoft has yet to announce when it will deliver a 4G-ready Surface, and it's not offering comment on the report, but the timing is certainly right. Microsoft is finally making some headway with its Surface tablet business. Surface revenue doubled between Q1 and Q2 of 2014, which may indicate it's selling as many as a couple million units per quarter.
However, the company remains fair behind tablet leader, Apple, which sold 26 million iPads last quarter. The availability of an always-connected Surface tablet could make it more appealing to professionals and maybe even to those who chose other tablets over the Surface because of the lack of connectivity options.
