Two celebrity doppelgängers have waged an-all out drum war against each other — and in the process, raised more than $300,000 for charity.
The path to this grand battle of similar-looking famous people began when Will Ferrell acknowledged in his Reddit AMA on Feb. 4 that he bore a striking resemblance to Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith. Ferrell took the statement a step further by proclaiming that in, fact, they were actually the same person.

Ferrell wasn't kidding. He reaffirmed his claim later that day in a video on the Funny or Die Instagram:

The Old School and Anchorman star challenged to Smith to the "greatest drum versus cowbell showdown the world has ever seen." But the showdown came with the condition: They wanted to raise $300,000 for Cancer for College, a nonprofit that awards college scholarships to cancer survivors.
Smith responded with his own video on the Funny or Die Instagram account, in which he ordered Ferrell to stop the impersonation and challenged him to a cowbell-free drum battle.

The real Chad Smith held his own Reddit AMA on Feb. 7 to promote an auction that would benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Ferrell took the opportunity to accept Smith's drum battle invite, but only if Cancer for College reached its goal of $300,000.
The goal was met on Saturday afternoon, which means the world will now witness one of the most important musical duels of all time.
Further details of the drum-off are unclear. However, Ferrell did suggest a venue in Smith's AMA: "We can do it on stage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert or in front of a mutually convenient public library. Your call."
