3D Companies Push the Gaming Industry Forward With New Alliance

Soon you won't simply play your video games — you'll be your video games.
That's the idea behind immersive 3D and gesture-based games that put the player deep into the action, a trend that some in the video-game industry are trying to nurture.

A group of 3D companies are joining forces to push this type of gameplay forward. Called the Immersive Technology Alliance, it includes software developers such as Survios, a company that creates virtual-reality games, as well as hardware companies such as Oculus Rift, which makes virtual-reality headsets for 3D experiences.

Technology such as Leap Motion's motion-sensor control and Virtuix's treadmill-like device, which enables users to literally "walk" within the game, are just a few examples of what the alliance aims to advance.
The ITA will take its first step next week when the group participates in meetings and tech demos at the Game Developers Conference. The week-long conference is set to take place at the Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco.
