Court won a record 24 Grand Slam titles during her career. She has an overall record of 62 major titles including 19 women's doubles and 19 mixed doubles titles. Her career match winning percentage on all surfaces is 91.74 which is an all-time record. She also shares the Open Era record for most Grand Slam singles titles as a mother with Kim Clijsters. The International Tennis Hall of Fame states, "For sheer strength of performance and accomplishment there has never been a tennis player to match [her]" Steffi Graf (West Germany): She is a former World No. 1 and one of the most versatile players to have won across all playing surfaces. In 1988, Graf became the first and only tennis player to achieve the Calendar Year Golden Slam for winning the Olympic gold medal and all four Grand Slam singles titles in the same year. Graf won 22 Grand Slam singles titles placing herself second among male and female players after Margaret Court's 24. Since the Association of Tennis Professionals and the WTA began issuing rankings, Graf was ranked World No. 1 for a record 377 total weeks which is the longest period for any male or female player. On eight occasions she finished as the year-end World No. 1 which in itself is a record. She won 107 singles titles, which ranks her third on the WTA's all-time list after Chris Evert (154 titles) and Martina Navratilova (167 titles). Kim Clijsters (Belgium): Clijsters ranks No. 2 in singles as of 4 July 2011. Clijsters is the reigning singles champion at the Australian Open and the US Open. She has been a runner-up in four Grand Slam singles tournaments and won four Grand Slam singles titles: one at the Australian Open in 2011 and three at the US Open, in 2005, 2009 and 2010 .She has won the WTA Tour Championships singles title in 2002, 2003 and 2010. Furthermore, she has also won 41 WTA singles titles and 11 WTA doubles titles. Clijsters is a former World No. 1 in both singles and doubles. In doubles, she won Wimbledon and the French Open titles in 2003. She declared her retirement on 6 May 2007 with immediate effect, but nearly two years later, on 26 March 2009, she publicly professed her intention to return to the WTA tour for the 2009 summer hard court season. She won her second US Open title on her third tournament just after her return. Clijsters is recognized for her all-court defense, characterized by flexibility and speed. Along with Svetlana Kuznetsova and Jelena Janković, Clijsters is considered as the few tennis players on the Association of Tennis Professionals and Women's Tennis Association tours who can "straddle" on all surfaces. She is renowned for her well-placed and powerful groundstrokes. Martina Navratilova (USA): Is a Czech American tennis player and a former World No. 1. Navratilova won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, 10 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles and 31 Grand Slam women's doubles titles (an all-time record). At Wimbledon she won the women's singles title nine times. Margaret Court, Doris Hart and Navratilova are the three women who accomplished a career Grand Slam in singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles called the Grand Slam "boxed set". Navratilova holds the open era record for most singles titles and doubles titles. She recorded the longest winning streak in the open era, 74 consecutive matches, and three of the longest winning streaks in the women's open era. Margaret Court, Maureen Connolly and Navratilova, share the record for the most consecutive Grand Slam singles titles. After Steffi Graf's 13 Navratilova reached 11 consecutive Grand Slam singles finals. In 1984 Pam Shriver and Navratilova won 109 consecutive matches in women's doubles, and won all four Grand Slam titles. They set an all-time record of 79 titles together and shared a record of 20 Grand Slam women's doubles titles as a team with Margaret Osborne DuPont and Louise Brough Clapp . Serena Williams (USA): Also a former World No. 1, she is considered to be one of the greatest women's tennis players of all time. On five separate occasions the WTA has ranked her World No. 1. For the first time on July 8, 2002 she became the World No.1 and later regained for the fifth time on November 2, 2009. On the all-time list she ranks ninth for her 27 Grand Slam titles: 13 in singles, 12 in women's doubles, and 2 in mixed doubles. Her 13 Grand Slam singles titles stand sixth on the all-time list. Williams ranks fourth behind Steffi Graf (22 titles) and Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova (18 titles each) in Grand Slam women's singles titles won during the open era. Most recently she is the only player to hold all four Grand Slam singles titles concurrently and the fifth woman in history to do so. She was also the first woman to hold all four Grand Slam doubles titles simultaneously ever since Martina Hingis did so in 1998. She spent a total of 209 weeks as World No. 1. She won five Grand Slam singles titles: one Wimbledon, one US Open and three Australian Opens. She won a calendar year doubles Grand Slam in 1998, one Grand Slam mixed doubles title and nine Grand Slam women's doubles titles. Hingis set a series of "youngest-ever" records but at the age of 22 in 2002 she was forced to withdraw temporarily from professional tennis due to ligament injuries in both ankles. She returned to the WTA tour in 2006, won three singles titles and was ranked world number 6. On 1 November 2007, Hingis announced her retirement from tennis. Chris Evert (USA): A former world number 1 professional tennis player, Evert is considered as one of the best female player of the 20th century. She was the year-end World No. 1 singles player in 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980 and 1981.She won 18 Grand Slam singles championships, comprising of a record six championships at the U.S. Open and a record of seven championships at the French Open. Evert's career victory–defeat record in singles matches is the best of any professional player in tennis history, she won 157 singles championships. Evert won three Grand Slam titles and 29 regular tour championships in women's doubles. At the age of 16, Evert made her Grand Slam tournament debut in the 1971 U.S. Open. In 1973 Evert became the runner-up at the Wimbledon Tournament and the French Open. In 1974, she won both these events and received her first Grand Slam singles titles. In 1975, she won the French Open again and the first of four straight U.S. Open titles by overpowering Evonne Goolagong Cawley. In 1976 she won Wimbledon again, defeating Cawley in a three-set final. Evert's command of the women's game and her tranquil, strong manner on court earned her the nickname of the "Ice Maiden" of tennis. During the late 1970s a new competitor named Martina Navratilova emerged on the scene. Their fierce rivalry on-court is remembered as one of the greatest in tennis history. Justine Henin (Belgium): A worldwide renowned tennis player and former World No. 1 Henin enjoyed success on all surfaces of the game. Henin won 43 WTA singles titles and seven Grand Slam singles titles, including one Australian Open title, two US Open titles and four French Open titles. She has also won the singles gold medal at the Summer Olympics in 2004 and also won the year-end Sony Ericsson Championships twice. She has twice reached the Wimbledon final, in 2001 and 2006; regrettably, it is the only Grand Slam singles title she didn’t win. Henin retired from the WTA in 2008 season and later returned in 2010. In her 2nd tournament, she lost in the final of the Australian Open. On 26 January 2011 she announced that she had to retire from professional tennis because of an elbow injury. She is well- known for her one- handed backhand, foot work and speed, bringing variety to her game and her mental robustness. Billie Jean King (USA): King is the founder of the Women's Sports Foundation, the Women's Tennis Association, and owner of World Team Tennis. King has been a believer against chauvinism in society and sports. In 1973, she defeated Bobby Riggs, a former Wimbledon men's singles champion. A career Grand Slam winner, Billie Jean King, won 16 Grand Slam women's doubles titles ,12 Grand Slam singles titles and 11 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. A dominating player on the grass, King won the French and the Australian Opens once each, the U.S Open four times and the Wimbledon six times. She was even better in the doubles arena, reaching an astounding 47 doubles finals winning 27 of them. Venus Williams (USA): Is a former World No. 1, ranked World No. 32 as of 4 July 2011 in singles and World No. 20 in doubles . She was ranked the World No. 1 for the first time on February 25, 2002, hence, becoming the first black woman to achieve this title during the open era. On three separate occasions she has been ranked World No. 1 in singles by the WTA. Williams has also won three Olympic gold medals, one in singles and two in women's doubles. She has won more Olympic gold medals than any other female tennis player and after Helen Wills Moody, Williams is the second player to win Olympic gold medals in both singles and doubles at the same Olympic Games (Sydney 2000). She stands twelfth on the all-time list for winning 21 Grand Slam titles. Venus Williams' titles comprise of: two in mixed doubles, seven in singles and twelve in women's doubles. Venus Williams is one of only three women in the open era to have won five or more Wimbledon singles titles. From the 2000 Wimbledon Championships to 2001 US Open, Williams won four Grand Slam singles tournaments. In the open era, she is one of only five women to win 200 or more Grand Slam singles matches. Williams is the leading player on the WTA Tour with her 43 career singles titles. From the 2000 Wimbledon Championships to the 2000 Generali Ladies Linz tournament final her 35-match winning streak is the longest since January 1, 2000. After her sister Serena Williams, Venus is the only other WTA player to have made the finals of all four Grand Slams. Since 1998, Venus Williams has played against her sister Serena Williams in 23 professional matches. They have also played against each other in eight Grand Slam singles finals. They opposed each other in four consecutive Grand Slam singles finals since the 2002 French Open. The sisters have won 12 Grand Slam doubles titles playing alongside each other.
