During his long career, he won 14 Grand Slam singles, the highest achievement by a male player until Roger Federer overtook it. He made a record holding the World No. 1 position for six consecutive years (1993–1998). He won seven Wimbledon singles, five US Open singles, five ATP World Tour Finals. However, he could never reach the final of the French Open. In 1996 he reached the semi-final where he performed his best ever in French Open. He is best known for his fast serve especially the quick and accurate second serve. Roger Federer (Switzerland): Sports experts, tennis critics, previous and current players think Federer to be the greatest tennis player of all time. He holds the number one position for a record of 237 successive weeks and 285 total weeks, next to Pete Sampras. He won the French Open in 2009. He is ranked World No. 3 as of July 2011. Federer holds a male record of 16 Grand Slams, reaching the semi-finals of 23 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments and 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals. Federer has won 4 ATP World Tour Finals and 17 ATP Masters Series tournaments. Federer grasps the open-era record for maximum sequential US Open awards. He has proven his expertise on clay, grass and hard courts. Rafael Nadal (Spain): He is presently ranked No. 2 in the world and regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. His victories on clay surfaces have earned him the title “The King of Clay”. Nadal has won nine Grand Slam singles, the 2008 Olympic gold medal in singles, a record of 18 ATP World Tour Masters and also was part of the Spain Davis Cup team that won the finals in 2004, 2008 and 2009. Being the youngest in the open era and the 7th player in history he achieved the 2010 US Open award. He is the second male player to complete the Career Golden Slam after Andre Agassi. Nadal was ranked World No. 2, behind Roger Federer, for a record 160 consecutive weeks. He remained in the top spot, from 2008 to 2009. He won his fifth French Open championship in June 2010. Andre Agassi (USA): Commonly considered by critics and fellow players to be one of the greatest tennis players of all time, Agassi has been called the best service returner in the history of the game. In singles tennis, Agassi is the only male player of the Open Era to achieve a Career Super Slam by winning the seven biggest tournaments in Tennis; the four Grand Slam tournaments, the Olympic gold medal in singles, the Davis Cup, and the ATP Tour World Championships. He won all four Grand Slam singles titles in his career which only four others have managed to accomplish. He won one Wimbledon, two US Open, four Australian Open, and one French Open. This proved his all-around capability to win on any and every surface. John McEnroe (USA): During his career, this former World No. 1 player won seven Grand Slam singles titles (three at Wimbledon and four at the US Open), nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles, and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title. McEnroe also won a record eight season ending championships, comprising of five WCT Finals titles and three Masters Grand Prix titles from twelve final appearances at these two events, a record he shares with Ivan Lendl. In addition he won 19 Championship Series top tier events on the Grand Prix Tour that were the precursors to the current Masters 1000. He is best remembered for his shot-making artistry and superb volleying. He was welcomed into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1999, and is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. This German born American tennis legend had a huge dominance in his time over world tennis. Now he is often seen as a commentator for Grand Slam tennis television coverage. Bjorn Borg (Sweden): He is considered one of the greatest players in the late 1970s and he won 11 Grand Slam singles titles. He holds a shared record with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal of winning five consecutive Wimbledon singles titles and four consecutive French Open singles titles respectively. In his relatively short career he won 89% of the Grand Slam singles matches he played. It is a record till now. He also has the highest winning percentage in all surfaces amongst the male players. He is one of four players in the open era to win both Wimbledon and the French Open in the same year and the only player to do so for three consecutive years. Borg was the first professional tennis player to earn more than one million dollars in prize money in a single season (1979). Rod Laver (Australia): He was the World No. 1 player for seven consecutive years, from 1964 to 1970. He is the only Australian tennis player to have twice won all four Grand Slam singles titles in the same year, one in 1962 and second in 1969. He is the only male player during the open era to have won a calendar year Grand Slam. He is the 3rd male player to win all four Grand Slams in his career after Fred Perry and Don Budge. Laver was ranked as the best professional player in the world during the five-years. However, he was excluded from the Grand Slams. Rod Laver is second and last male player to win each major title twice in his career. Only Roy Emerson and Margaret Court had won all four Grand Slam tournaments twice before Laver in the history of tennis. Mats Wilander (Sweden): He won seven Grand Slam singles titles (three at the French Open, three at the Australian Open, and one at the US Open), and one Grand Slam men's doubles title (at Wimbledon). He won three of the four Grand Slam singles events in 1988 and finished that year ranked World No. 1. Although he never won the singles title at Wimbledon, Wilander twice won the Australian Open when that tournament was still played on grass courts. This makes Wilander one of only five men (along with Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer) to have won Grand Slam singles titles on grass courts, hard courts, and clay courts. He and Rafael Nadal are the only men in tennis history to have won at least two Grand Slam singles titles on each of the three surfaces. Wilander won his fourth career Grand Slam singles title at the age of 20. In addition he also won eight Championship Series titles (1983–88). Boris Becker (Germany): This German born tennis player is considered as one of the greatest entertainers of the sport. He became a professional tennis player in 1984. At 17, he won his first Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon which was a record at that time. Boris Becker was very famous among the fans of his time. Wimbledon's youngest victor, Becker was a brilliant and well-liked player. The Olympic gold medalist failed to win the French Open despite reaching the semi-finals on three occasions. His six Grand Slam titles comprise of three Wimbledon singles titles, one U.S. Open title and two Australian Open titles. His immense power and his forceful serve-volley game made him an invincible opponent. Boris played with passion and courage. He was willing to take risk and probably hit more absolute winners than any player in history. Jimmy Connors (USA): He held the top ranking continuously for 160 weeks from July 29, 1974 to Aug 22, 1977, and during his career total of 268 weeks. He obtained eight Grand Slam singles titles and two Grand Slam doubles titles with Ilie Năstase and became the mixed doubles runner-up with Chris Evert at the US Open in 1974. Connors is, therefore, one of only five men who won a Grand Slam singles title on hard, grass and clay courts. He never won the French Open. This American won five US Open tournaments in his career and became one of the most successful male tennis players in US Open history. Statistics cannot describe the greatness of Jimmy Connors.
