copied and paste from dhaka tribune news Two bodies of Bangladeshis could not be identified, six crewmen remain missing; another vessel FV Pailin with three Bangladeshis onboard still traceless Three Bangladeshi crewmen of MV Hope were rescued alive while bodies of three others, including two Bangladeshis, recovered from the Phuket coast in Thailand yesterday raising the number of survivors to nine. Meanwhile, Thailand flag carrying fishing vessel Pailin has still been traceless from the Phuket Coast with 11 crewmen, including three Bangladeshis, since Tuesday. Of the three, one was identified as Captain Kripayan Chakma while identities of the two others could not be confirmed immediately. It was heading for Chittagong Port and was scheduled to change its flag as a Bangladeshi company purchased the vessel. Captain Mohiuddin Abdul Quader, chief executive officer of Interport Maritime Limited, an organisation to protect the interest of the sea-going vessels, said a vessel named MV Bau Lagoon rescued Mushfiqur Rahman, an engine cadet of MV Hope, alive yesterday afternoon. Two others – second officer Mobarak Hossain and cadet Raek Fairooz – were rescued by the Thai Coast Guard in the evening. The rescued and the recovered bodies were taken to local hospitals, sources said. Rescue workers also recovered three unidentified bodies, two of who are Bangladeshi crewmen. But their identities could not be confirmed immediately. The two Bangladeshis are among the eight still missing: Captain Rajib Chandra Karmakar, chief officer Mahabub Morshed, second engineer Nazam Uddin, Ali Hossain of Chittagong, chief engineer Kazi Saifuddin of Dhaka and Mohammed Nasir Uddin of Mymensingh, Sadim Ali of Comilla and Nasir Uddin of Barisal. MV Hope, a Bangladeshi flag carrier vessel, tilted at the Phuket Coast of Andaman Sea on Thursday due to rough weather, forcing the crew members to jump into the turbulent sea on a life raft. Soon after the incident, the Thailand Navy and a Chittagong Port-bound vessel rescued six crewmen of MV Hope. They are: Mokhlesur Rahman, Abdul Hakim, Abu Bakar Siddique, Mohammed Rubel, Mohammed Osman and Saiful Islam. “We are maintaining contact with the Thai Navy to remain updated about the rescue operation,” he added. Many near and dear ones of the missing crewmen rushed to the Interport Maritime Limited office in Agrabad area in the port city yesterday to know about the progress of the rescue operation. Mohammed Zakaria, son of missing crewman of MV Hope Ali Hossain, said they were in apprehension that they might not get the body of his father as the incident had taken place in the sea far away from the country. “If anybody dies in road accident, the family members at least get his body for burial, but we are not sure whether we should be able to bury him following rituals,” the youth in tears said. Mohammed Idris, brother of missing Nazam Uddin, told the Dhaka Tribune that they had been going through an unexplainable situation after receiving the message of the accident. “My brother left the country three months back and was scheduled to reach on July 8,” he added.
