Stars, Stripes and Bricks: '50 States of Lego'

Though there's nothing wrong with a little home-state pride. But it's important to maintain a sense of humor about the goofy qualities that make each of the 50 states special.
Photographer Jeff Friesen pokes a bit of good-humored fun at each of the U.S. states in his project, "50 States of Lego," a photo series of scenes created using his 7-year-old daughter's brick collection.

Friesen told Mashable that this series stemmed from a separate project titled "Great White North," which features Lego depictions of Canadian provinces.
"I used to live in the U.S. and got to thinking it would be a challenge to do all 50 states," he said. "I actually thought it might be impossible, considering the limitations of my daughter's Lego collection and the fact that there are 16 states I have not visited."
Friesen said that though he kept a list of sketches and ideas for each state, many times his limited set of bricks guided the work. But when it comes down to it, creating and shooting the Lego scenes is just a fun project to amuse him and his daughter on their afternoons spent together.
