How You Can Visit the White House Without Coming to Washington

The vast majority of tourists aren't allowed the black picket fence bordering the massive lawn of the White House. But now, anyone take a look inside 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. without even coming to Washington, D.C.
The White House and the Discovery Channel launched a series of virtual "field trips" aimed at middle school and high school students that explore different facets of the mansion. Classrooms can register as a unit on Discovery's website, and each tour will be broadcast live before it is archived there.

"We’re always looking for new ways to open the White House and engage with citizens online," Kori Schulman, director of online engagement for the Office of Digital Strategy, wrote in a White House blog post.
The series, which will run throughout 2014, is called “Of the People: Live from the White House," and each segment will showcase a different part of the first family's abode. Monday's initial broadcast was led by White House curator William Allman, who looked at "priceless artifacts" from the home and revealed the stories behind them.
According to Schulman's post, future field trips will cover topics such as community service, climate change, foreign policy and science and technology.
