The animal feed containing the dioxin contaminated organic corn from the Ukraine is probably all been consumed by the animals by now, according to Francine van Rossem, Director of TrusQ. The contaminated corn entered Rotterdam Harbour late November or early December and processed to animal feed in January. TrusQ is still investigating the cause of the contamination. It is also not clear why the contamination was noticed so late. A sample was taken earlier in the Ukraine by a Dutch laboratory, but at the time no traces of dioxins were found. Last week, eight farms in the Netherlands and nineteen farms in Germany were locked and therefore could not sell their eggs. According to TrusQ, the damage could be several tons of Euros.
