Shahariar Sabuz Students of English Department of Jagannath University (JnU) were cutting a cake with full of excitement on October 20. It seemed that they were celebrating someone's birthday. But it was the birthday of their beloved campus in fact. On the occasion of the fifth founding anniversary of Jagannath University, students of different faculties organised several celebration with cultural programmes. In the very early of the day, students and teachers of all departments came to the campus wearing colourful dresses that added special beauty with the as usual look of the campus. Boys and male teachers wore short panjabis with jeans while female students and teachers wore colourful saris with a flower attached with their hair. At about 9:00am, all the students, teachers and staffs gathered in front of the "Projonmo '71" in the university campus. During the gathering, all the participants wore T-shirts of their respective departments. T-shirts of different colour made a scenic view at campus. After a while, Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmed joined the gathering and exchanged greetings with students and teachers. He also hoisted the national flag and university flag on the occasion. Later he led a colourful rally marking the marvellous day. The rally ended in front of the Science Faculty after parading the whole campus. Later, a discussion was held at Science Faculty premises while JnU VC Prof Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, deans of different faculties addressed on the occasion. Some senior students also took part in the discussion while they placed some demands such as hall crisis, shortage of teachers, reduction of tuition fees, play ground and enlargement of the campus. After the discussion, students celebrated the occasion with great festivity at their respective departments. During the mirth and fun, they also shared their feelings with their friends and recalled their memories at campus. Farhaha Sharmin of English department expressed her feelings in this way. "It seems it is my own birthday and in some addition it is more than that. Though we are now facing some problems including residential and transportation facilities but hopefully we will get modern facilities soon like other universities." Abu Bakar Siddique of Economics department dreams of his campus where will be no political violence and discrimination. He said, "There will be no violence among the students over establishing political supremacy and everyone will get his legitimate rights." Thus the gathering with full of fun and enjoyment was continued till the departure of university bus. But the sequence of fun existed even in the bus till they got down from it.
