Cachar of Assam joins anti-Tipaimukh dam movement The people of Cachar in the Indian state of Assam have begun movement against the construction of Tipaimukh dam in Monipur state of India. Different environmental organisations of Cachar at a joint meeting with the Monipur groups, which are opposed to the construction of the dam, on Saturday decided to wage united movement against the dam. These environmental organisations alleged that the government of India had given them wrong idea about the benefit of the dam to the people of down stream. Sources said that the people of downstream of Borak River and different environmental organisations decided to join anti-dam movement with the people of Monipur state and other regions. The people of Bangladesh are already engaged in anti- dam movement as the people of downstream. Downstream people of Monipur state in India had also waged movement against the dam. Now the people Cachar, which is located at the downstream region, have joined this movement. As a result the anti-dam movement will gain momentum and pressure will be exerted on the Indian government to stop the construction of the dam.
