The Catcher in the Rye author J.D. Salinger's reclusive years are dissected in the second trailer for the revealing Salinger documentary, which swept into theaters Friday.
The intimate footage — including 150 interviews with Salinger's friends, lovers and colleagues as well as stars such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton, John Cusack and Danny DeVito — explores what prompted the famed writer to become so elusive starting in 1965.

Salinger died in 2010 at age 91. The Shane Salerno-directed film, nine years in the making, will attempt to divulge the demons of his past and his influence on culture, with access to interview subjects who are speaking on record for the first time.
Aiming to paint a portrait of Salinger's final 56 years, Salerno and the Weinstein Company will highlight exclusive photographs, diaries, letters, legal records and documents.
