International telecommunications, including internet service, were disrupted as suspected miscreants cut off underground optical fibre cable at Eidgaon in Cox’s bazar this noon (Monday).
Cox’s Bazar Submarine Landing Station sources said the optical line on the information superhighway was severed in the area near Chokoria, 40 kms off the resort district town, at about 2.30pm.
The concerned official suspected that “local miscreants might have cut off the cable for stealing”.
Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) in a press release said the telecommunications system is being temporally disrupted due to snapping of optical fibre laid along the Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong highway.
“As a result, internet systems are being disrupted temporally and a little bit congestion may arise in exchange of overseas call,” it said.
A technical team from the T&T Board already has started their repairing work.
The telecommunications with the external world were now being operated through satellite system, the T&T authorities said and sought cooperation of all in ensuring security of the important international communications network.
Earlier, on August 23, miscreants cut off the underground optical lines at two places in Lohagara upazila in Chittagong district.
