'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Trailer Asks Scared Mutants to 'Hope Again'

It seems X-Men: Days of Future Past is trying to set some sort of world record by cramming as many beautiful, Oscar-winning (or nominated) people into a two-minute trailer as possible.
The movie explores the series within the comic books where future X-Men must help their past selves save the future. (Take a moment to process that.) The time-traveling plot allows the movie to bulk up on a star-studded cast, combining the members of 2011's X-Men: First Class (James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence) with the classic mutants (Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian Mckellen).

In the trailer, which arrived Tuesday, future Professor X instructs Wolverine to travel back in time to change the course of action his past self and Magneto set into play.
"Find me, lead me, guide me," Xavier tells Wolverine. "Be patient."
That's where things get intense; future and past Professor X come face to face.
Director Bryan Singer, known for his work on X-Men and X2, took to Twitter on Monday to answer fans' questions about the upcoming film. He promised a more "kick-ass" Mystique (played by Jennifer Lawrence) and explained why he can't get enough of the X-Men universe.
Tomorrow's trailer is primarily a character piece, as most of our VFX are not yet finished.

Although there is a great deal of humor, the overall tone is a bit darker than previous films, particularly because of the stakes.

.@irturner She's a much more hardened kick-ass character than she was in #FirstClass.

Last week, the movie released a six-second Instagram teaser for the movie, that gave fans glimpses at their favorite characters.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to hit theaters on May 23.
