Airbnb, the startup that connects travelers with hosts looking to rent out their available bedrooms and couches, announced new versions of its iOS and Android apps on Tuesday.
The new apps enable hosts to handle all of the logistics behind setting up a transaction with a traveler directly from his or her mobile device.

Part of the new app, called Host Home, allows a user to do things like manage incoming inquiries or set up a professional photography session for her apartment from her mobile device.
The changes to the app were partly due to complaints and feedback given by users who said the current app was hard to use and made it difficult for hosts, said Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky.
Parts of the new app reflect the company's commitment to providing a superb hospitality experience. Airbnb invited more than 300 hosts to the company headquarters on Tuesday to make a number of announcements, including best practices. "You're in the business of hospitality," said Chesky to the crowd.
Chesky stressed to the crowd the importance of personalizing the trip for each guest if possible, leaving them with an experience they'll remember fondly. The mobile apps allow users to easily manage their calendar from their phone, a tool that helps hosts better prepare and schedule their guests.
The new apps also have a travel section for those looking for a room. The listings include larger, more impressive photos, and reviews are included above a listing's description, another sign the company is putting major emphasis the guest experience.
In addition to the mobile apps, Airbnb announced a few additional tools for hosts, including Airbnb Groups that allow hosts to connect with one another to share ideas, restaurant recommendations, and stories. A group of Beta testers started using this feature in June, and more than 300 Airbnb groups have been created already. Beginning Tuesday, every Airbnb host will be able to join or create groups in their areas.
Airbnb also brought back the company's Superhost Program, which was discontinued back in February. This program is meant to identify and reward some of the platform's most active and highly recommended hosts. Superhost members are selected from a group of applicants and receive a badge next to their listings so potential guests know they have been recognized by the company for their successful track record.
In January, Airbnb will beginning offering a Host Rewards Program to honor its best hosts. Some rewards will include travel credits for hosts, and the details of the program will be explained in more detail beginning in 2014, says Chesky.
The apps are available now in the App Store and the Google Play store.
