Sling Media announced a new SlingPlayer channel for Roku streaming devices on Monday. This means you can enjoy live or recorded TV via a Slingbox on a Roku streaming player.
The result is similar to the TiVo Stream and TiVo Mini products, in that it lets you access content and remotely control a TV set and DVR from another location.

Sling wrote in a blog post that this is useful for those with vacation homes without cable or access to local channels, for college students and for rooms without their own cable or satellite receivers.
This isn't the first time Sling has extended its player to work with streaming devices. Last month, Sling updated its SlingPlayer app to support AirPlay on the Apple TV. In January, SlingPlayer support came to NetGear's Neo TV device.
Still, supporting Roku is a big step, if only because the streaming set-top box has arguably the highest penetration. It can also be purchased for as little as $50, making it an affordable alternative for users who want a streaming device that can also act as a de facto TV extender.
To use the SlingPlayer channel on Roku, you need to initiate a video stream from the SlingPlayer Mobile app for iPhone and Android. Once you select your video or source, you can send it to the Roku channel with just a tap of a button.
Roku 3, Roku 2 XS, Roku 2 XD and the Roku Streaming Stick all have support today, and the Roku 2, Roku 1 and Roku LT models will get support next week.
In addition to the Roku channel, Sling also updated its iOS and Android SlingPlayer apps with an additional focus on the second screen and content discovery, helping users find content across their TV lineups.

SlingPlayer 3.0 also has a new sports mode that makes it easy for users to find which channel the game is playing on, while also offering live statistics and game scores alongside the game.
The updated iOS and Android apps are available now. Sling also says it will be brining an app out to Windows 8.1 in December.
