'Hunger Games' Beats Harry Potter's Thanksgiving Box Office Record

The bow and arrow defeated the magic wand as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire broke Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone's long-standing Thanksgiving box office record set in 2001 this weekend. Catching Fire raked in $110.1 million domestically over the five-day holiday weekend compared to Sorcerer’s Stone's $82.4 million pull 12 years ago.
Frozen, Thor: The Dark World, The Best Man Holiday and Homefront rounded out the weekend's top five movies. All together, the box office earned an estimated $294 million from Nov. 27 through Dec. 1 in the United States and Canadian theaters versus last year's $290 million.
