Elvis and Jesus Come Alive in Lana Del Rey's Short Film 'Tropico'

Things are about to get trippy.
Lana Del Rey's 30-minute film "Tropico" is one-third acid trip, one-third biblical references and one-third Lana's soul.

The movie, which the singer wrote and stars in along with model Shaun Ross, premiered Wednesday night at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, Calif. It is directed by Anthony Mandler, who is known for his work on Rihanna's music videos.

The storyline begins with Del Rey and Ross in the Garden of Eden as a scantily-clad Adam and Eve. They both dance to Del Rey's song "Body Electric" from her album Born to Die - Paradise Edition. Things get a little questionable when Jesus, John Wayne, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and a unicorn watch from the sidelines as the couple (spoiler alert) partakes in the eating of the symbolic apple. You can't make this stuff up. The second song, "Gods and Monsters," is paired with a storyline of strippers, guns and robberies in modern-day Los Angeles. Things eventually calm down when the couple is transported to a picturesque field for Del Rey's romantic tune "Bel Air." After reaching redemption, the two end in a heaven, of sorts, to the backdrop of Wayne's "Always On My Mind." Along with debuting her film, Del Rey announced the name of her new album, "Ultra-Violence." No release date has been set for the upcoming album. Have something to add to this story?
