'Seventeen' Is First Major Magazine to Join Snapchat

Seventeen Magazine has joined Snapchat and is looking for followers, making it one of the first major magazine publications to join the messaging service.

The message and photo-sharing app that is known for its discretion skews female, with Snapchat's CEO recently noting that 70% of its users are women. The platform has also begun to attract brands that value the youthful demographic that popularized the app.

Seventeen’s Editor in Chief Ann Shoket says: “As part of our ongoing efforts to speak to girls whenever, wherever they are, we launched Snapchat for Seventeen. When we met with [Snapchat CEO] Evan Spiegel, we knew immediately this would be yet another way for us to create a personal connection with our readers in real time.”
Snapchat has enjoyed a prosperous run recently, including a fresh round of fundraising that brought in $50 million, as well as reports of acquisition offers from Google and Facebook that valued the company at $4 billion and $3 billion respectively.
