After a critically flawed election, Awami League leaders and supporters are enjoying their ill-gotten victory, while poor people, and minority Hindus are suffering. Until now my focus was mostly on Ruling Party. It dawned on me that BNP's contributions in the making of this mess is also significant. They failed to play the constructive role of a opposition party. Failed to clarify their stance regarding Trial of War Criminals. Failed to practice Democracy within the party and organizing their supporters starting at the lowest level. It seems that they sub-contracted their protest marches to Jamat-Shibir. They even depended on group like Hifazat.
To summarize, current BNP leadership failed to organize and face Awami League and be on the moral high ground.
Now Khaleda Zia can set a good example by leaving the party leadership (for Sheikh Hasina to follow down the road ) to someone new. Let a new set of leaders come up with new ideas to bring qualitative change in Bangladesh's politics.
